Four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine

February 24 marks four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Sweden, through the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency, has so far provided support to Ukraine’s civil defence amounting to more than two billion SEK. In recent months, Russian attacks have been particularly directed at infrastructure and the energy sector. This brings new challenges and new needs for Ukraine’s civil defence.

New brochure to strengthen the role of businesses in total defence

On 20 January 2026, the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency will begin distributing the brochure Preparedness for businesses – In case of crisis or war to 130,000 workplaces in Sweden. The brochure provides businesses with advice on how they can prepare for crisis and war – and thus contribute to Sweden's strength.

Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency leads and creates decisive action in the overall civil protection and crises nationally to ensure that civil and military defence are coordinated.

MSB contributes to a stronger preparedness culture within the EU

Since February 2024, MSB has led the EU project preparEU Pilot in collaboration with Norway, Spain and Belgium. The project has now presented its final report which includes recommendations to enhance resilience among the population across the EU.

International cooperation to strengthening Sweden´s civil prepardness

International cooperation is an important part of strengthening Sweden’s civil preparedness. Last week, a delegation led by the Director General of MSB, Mikael Frisell, visited Washington and New York, to meet with US partners, follow up ongoing efforts and discuss priorities for future collaboration to further the development of Sweden’s Total Defense.

Honoring MSB Veterans – A Day of Recognition and Reflection

On May 29, Sweden celebrated its National Veterans Day with an official ceremony at the Restare Veterans Monument outside the National Maritime Museum in Stockholm. The event was held in glorious sunshine and gathered a wide audience of veterans, families, colleagues, and members of the public.
